The aim of the Urban Decay project was to take inspiration from old, barren, and eroding surroundings. I initially took inspiration from urban buildings that had decayed over time however, as the project progressed, my overriding inspiration came from physical rusting. I started by creating drawings of urban wheels and an old light fitting using graphite pencil, fine-liner and tissue paper to add texture. I also photographed urban objects including a rusted bike wheel and the bike pedal. The next stage for the project was to experiment with multiple techniques such as rusting, marbling, felting, and melting plastic bags, I enjoyed experimenting with different techniques as it gave me inspiration for the fashion designs which I created using small samples of the experimenting I previously created. My final garment was created using rusting techniques by  sewing into individual triangles of rusted material to create a unique silhouette which I then sewed into to add textures. I also added melted plastic to the top and bottom of the garment to create balance and add to the overall appearance.
